Meet ‘Steve’, our April wallpaper.

Travel Alberta

Apr 01, 2018 -

Meet Steve. Not to be confused with the northern lights, 'Steve,' the shimmering purple ribbon of plasma, is an exciting phenomenon that happens when electrically-charged particles in the sun collide with magnetic energy found in Earth’s atmosphere. It’s about 26 km wide with a temperature of 10,800 degrees Fahrenheit. In other words: Steve is tall, hot, colourful, and really photogenic. And it was identified by Alberta’s amazing community of aurora watchers. You can read what National Geographic had to say about Steve, and then download our wallpaper to decorate your phone for the month.
