Connect to the country without going too far from the city. On the western edge of Calgary, family-oriented Butterfield Acres Farm offers the chance to hunt for eggs, milk a goat, or ride a pony.
Try something out of the ordinary at the Chinook Honey Company located 20 minutes south of Calgary. Sample the honey wines or savour honey ice cream and honey tea. In addition to sweet treats, you can view a live observation hive to see where the honey comes from.
Calgary area attractions pay tribute to Alberta’s ranching and farming history. You can tour the site of the first large scale cattle operation in western Canada at the Cochrane Ranche Historic Site. Displays at the Grain Academy and Museum highlight the history of grain handling, storage and transportation and Irricana’s Pioneer Acres has antique tractors and threshing machines.
