Global's Your Town

 Zoos & Wildlife

You don’t have to go to Hollywood to see movie stars. The Discovery Wildlife Park at Innisfail is home to a group of bears that have starred in many movies and television commercials. During your visit, you can experience the park’s skunk races and raccoon lottery or take a camel ride.

At Ellis Bird Farm near Lacombe, you can see the world’s largest collection of bluebird nest boxes, observe the mountain bluebirds that live in them, and participate in bird banding tours.

Wildlife rehabilitation and return to the wild is the focus of the Medicine River Wildlife Centre. The centre, located 45 minutes from Red Deer, treats approximately 160 species each year. Most of the animals are species native to Alberta.

Find out more about central Alberta wildlife at the Kerry Wood Nature Centre in Red Deer.
