Have you ever seen the northern lights (aurora borealis) dance or change colour––or heard them crackle?

The University of Alberta's Aurora Watch predicts aurora activity in the Edmonton region. For best results, head out of the city to a dark place like Elk Island National Park – and look up.

If city lights or cloudy skies mask your view of the night sky, head north to Fort McMurray, Peace River, Grande Prairie, or Athabasca.

Fort McMurray is in the aurora's “optimal activity oval.” For the best photo opportunities, you can even take a northern lights tour with Alta-Can Aurora Tours or Aurora Tours.
