 Hiking

Leave your worries behind and rev your senses into high gear when you hike the mountain paths and offbeat trails in Alberta’s outdoor spaces.

Don’t know where to go? Alberta TrailNet has detailed maps and information about routes ranging from simple day hikes to expeditions for the hardcore. Government of Alberta, Tourism Parks and Recreation is where you’ll find out about provincial park access. Parks Canada is the place to go for detailed information pertaining to national parks like Banff and Jasper.

• Plan a day hike in Calgary
• Meet new friends at the Edmonton Outdoor Club
• Stroll the Trans Canada Trail in Central Alberta
• Heli-hike in the Rockies
• See the “seven wonders” in Alberta South
• Lose yourself in the dunes of Alberta North

Heading out into the backcountry can be dangerous if you’re not careful, so be prepared. Learn about mountain safety and etiquette from the Alpine Club of Canada or test your knowledge of bear safety with Sustainable Resource Development. Oh, and it doesn’t hurt to check the weather forecast before you go.
