Calgary has the most extensive urban pathway network in North America. The city boasts 660 km (410 mi) of multi-use trails, and there are 290 km (180 mi) more of on-street bike lanes.
Canada Olympic Park, fifteen minutes from downtown, is a cutting-edge mountain biking facility during the summer months. Freeriders can test their balance and mettle on hidden obstacle courses, tight single tracks and stunt zones.
Highway 40, with a wide, paved shoulder, runs through Kananaskis Country for about 70 km (43 mi) over the Highwood Pass, the highest paved road in Canada at 2,206 m (7,239 ft). People with knobby tires can hop off the highway and on to the hundreds of kilometres of trails inside the park.
